Behind-The-Ear (BTE) Hearing Aids
These are fitted with a custom made ear mould and they are the most powerful hearing aids available making them suitable for mild to profound hearing losses. They also have the most options for user controls and are compatible with accessories such as FM systems.
They are easy to handle and have larger batteries which last longer.
Receiver-In-Canal (RIC) Hearing Aids
These are miniature behind-the-ear hearing aids which are extremely discreet and come in a variety of colours to match hair tone or style preference. The microphones and sound processor are housed in a casing that fits behind the ear, which delivers the sound down a very thin clear wire to a receiver or speaker that sits inside the ear canal.
The receiver in the ear can be housed by an ‘open’ dome which allows normal low frequency sound into the ear and makes your own voice sound more natural.
These are suitable for mild to severe hearing losses but are particularly suited to high frequency losses.
In-The-Canal (ITC) Hearing Aids
ITC instruments sit in the lower portion of the outer ear bowl, making them comfortable and easy to use. Because they’re slightly larger than CIC models, they have a longer battery life, and can host additional features such as directional microphones for better understanding in noisy environments, and controls such as volume controls. They fit mild and moderate hearing losses.
Invisible-In-The-Ear (IIC) Hearing Aids
These are custom made ultra discreet hearing aids designed to fit deeply in your ear canal. Completely unobtrusive, only you will know you are wearing them. Small they may be but they don’t skimp on power or technology. There is a range of invisible or hidden hearing aids to suit every loss and pocket.
Completely-In-Canal (CIC) Hearing Aids
These are the smallest in the ear hearing aids available. They are also custom made and fit right inside the ear canal to appear virtually invisible. They have a smaller battery than in-the-ear hearing aids and are slightly more difficult to handle, but can provide a more natural sound, reduced wind noise and improved telephone use due to the microphone placement.
Modern feedback management systems mean that even severe hearing losses can be fitted with completely-in-canal hearing aids, making them suitable for most people.
